Our turkeys are Red Tractor Assured, meaning they are produced to high standards of food safety, traceability and animal welfare.
High animal welfare standards
All of our turkeys are raised to our strict animal welfare standards. This means they live in sheds where the temperature and ventilation are monitored and controlled to meet the bird’s requirements all day and night. They have access to food and water at all times and can move freely around the shed where they can interact with their companions. They are also able to carry out natural behaviour through environmental enrichment in the housing such as perches and straw bales.

Meet the producer - Tony
Tony produces 100% British turkey under the Red Tractor quality assurance scheme for Co-op. They are raised in Norfolk and Tony says “If they could talk they would sound exactly like me!” His first job of the day is to check all the birds in their sheds. Here they make sure they have plenty of food, water and everything is running well.
“The birds are lively, noisy and inquisitive. They move around freely in barns where they have perches and toys to peck at, enabling them to display natural behaviour. That’s how we know they are happy and healthy.”
They have been rearing turkeys for over 65 years across East Anglia. Tony believes that producing the best quality and tasting turkey is down to the dedication of his staff. Some of the farm managers have in excess of 30 years experience and wouldn’t think anything of coming out in the middle of the night to safeguard the welfare of the birds. Christmas is an exceptionally busy time of the year and is always 18 months in planning.
“Biosecurity is incredibly important to us, its helps us protect the health and welfare of our birds. We manage every stage of the process so we know where our birds are from.”
They also try to keep their carbon footprint as low as possible by supplying farms from hatchery and breeder farms within a 20 mile radius. They have 200kw of solar panels and have planted 4 hectares of woodland.
